So, Marvel recently unveiled the trailer for the next Thor movie. I’ve got to say it’s looking pretty cool so far. The use of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song is definitely a nice little reference to the comic characters roots in Norse Mythology.
The song itself has references to Valhalla alongside singer Robert Plant howling, almost like viking’s preparing for combat. A tour in Iceland inspired Plant to write the song, with the song depicting viking’s searching for new lands. The lyrics, such as “Fight the horde, sing and cry, Valhalla, I am coming!” make explicit reference to Viking conquests and the ancient customs they followed. The Marvel character Thor is obviously based on the mythological figure of the same name, was created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Larry Lieber. The song is perfect for the trailer, not just due to the Norse roots in both, but because the lyrics promise of battle and the discovery of new lands appears to permeate the trailer’s footage too. The addition of the Hulk only adds even more promise to the film.
Will you go see the film? Do you like the song or Led Zeppelin? Why don’t you write a comment or share the article?
